ALEXANDRIA, Va. (7News) — Virginia Tech celebrated a significant milestone in its dedication to innovation and technology education on Friday, opening a new academic building in Alexandria. More than 1,000 people were joined by Virginia leaders and notable alumni.

Governor Glenn Youngkin spoke on the campus's significance and how it'll support future research in technology:
Innovation is alive and well not just in the mid-Atlantic, but across the United States. And it’s happening right here at the Innovation Campus at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech President Tim Sands, Sen. Mark Warner, and Sen. Tim Kaine also delivered speeches at the ceremony.

The facility will host graduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, and business and support project-based AI research in the DMV.
This is the new manifestation of an engaged university — meeting people where they live and work to understand their needs and seek solutions that make a difference
