Trackhouse MotoGP rider Ai Ogura will not take part in any further sessions at the British Grand Prix after suffering a possible fracture to his right tibia.

The Aprilia satellite squad released a statement this morning after Ogura crashed during Friday’s FP1 session, and the Japanese Moto2 champion is unable to continue racing this weekend at Silverstone.

“Following the accident that Ai suffered at Turn 2 in Free Practice 1, on Friday, the injury he suffered has been diagnosed as a possible fracture at the top of his right tibia.

“He has been declared unfit to ride for the remainder of the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom and will return to Barcelona for further tests.

“Trackhouse MotoGP Team will release further news on Ai’s condition in due course and in the meantime, wish him a speedy recovery.”

Speaking after the accident, Ogura said: “I was running not so fast on the second run. I was on my way to improve but… wrong timing, the wrong amount of push and I crashed.

“After that my right knee [did not feel right] and we decided to skip practice for this afternoon.”

The MotoGP rookie sits out this weekend having finished tenth at the last Grand Prix in France, which was won by home hero Johann Zarco.

He impressed many with his start to the season, with a season-best finish of fifth at the season opener Grand Prix in Thailand, finishing fourth in the sprint race.

Gresini’s Alex Marquez placed top of Friday’s Practice, with Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo in second. Championship leader Marc Marquez took fourth, while team-mate Francesco Bagnaia was in seventh.
